Products: ADsorb-it Filter Fabric

Do you need to remove oil or hydrocarbons from pump-outs like electrical vaults or bilges, but let water pass through? Stop oil from leaching out from contaminated areas into waterways due to run-off? Prevent oil leaks from reaching beyond a containment zone even when rain, snow and ice are factors?

ADsorb-it is a filter fabric which allows water to filter through, but traps hydrocarbons within its fibres and physically prevents particulates from passing through. Made from recycled plastic, this product can be wrung out to recover captured oil or refined hydrocarbons and re-used many times. After a spill event is concluded, the fabric can be laundered, dried and stored for subsequent re-use. At end of life, it can be recycled. ADsorb-it is available in a wide range of form factors and value-add configurations.

This is a low-cost and very effective approach to oil spill containment, control and capture.

  • re-usable, dozens of times, so it reduces your overall costs over multiple spill recovery events
  • separates oil from water, so you don't have to store, settle and decant
  • oil and other hydrocarbons can be RECOVERED mechanically by squeezing the fabric
  • no toxic waste is created (as is the case with absorbents)
  • which means no transportation of toxic waste costs, and,
  • no toxic waste disposal fees at a toxic waste disposal site

  • made from waste from the textile industry
  • RECOVERED oil and hydrocarbons are available for subsequent use or processing
  • can be laundered and stored for years until needed again (not discarded)
  • at end of life (due to wear) the material can be burned as a heating fuel

    This product should be in the tool kit of any first responders dealing with gasoline, diesel oil, heating fuel, crude oil or pipeline spills.

    ADsorb-it is listed by the U.S. EPA for oil spill response. (There is no equivalent list in Canada.)
